Take training courses to learn how to perform lead-safe work practices. This requirement was issued under the authority of section 402(c)(3) of the Toxic Substances Control Act. This act states that renovations must be performed by certified firms who must use certified renovators. Firms/contractors must post signs that clearly define the work area, and warn occupants and other persons involved in the renovation to remain outside the area. The contractor must isolate the work area so that no dust or debris leaves the area while the work is being performed.  The work that is performed must be done in accordance with applicable work practice standards.  The waste and debris must be contained and disposed of per applicable regulations.  After the renovation is complete, the firm must clean that area and have a certified renovator verify the cleanliness of the work area. This inspection is done using a procedure that utilizes disposable cleaning cloths.
Please note that even the smallest renovation such as minor maintenance or repairs are prohibited unless they follow the proper procedure.
